Corporate Wellbeing Counsellor (Contract)
Job Description
The In-House Counsellor will play a critical role in supporting the organisation’s wellbeing agenda by providing professional counselling services, training deliveries, strengthening mental health initiatives, and contributing to the design and execution of holistic wellbeing programmes. This role ensures employees have access to safe, confidential, and high-quality psychological support, while also driving proactive wellbeing strategies across the organisation.
Responsibilities
Counselling & Psychological Support
• Provide confidential, ethical, and professional one-on-one counselling services to employees.
• Conduct assessments and develop appropriate intervention plans for individuals experiencing emotional, psychological, or work-related challenges.
• Offer short-term therapeutic support and refer cases to external specialists where necessary.
• Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential records of all counselling sessions in accordance with professional and legal standards.
• Ensure compliance with all guidelines set by Lembaga Kaunseling Malaysia (LKM).
Wellbeing Programme Support (End-to-End)
• Partner with the Wellbeing Senior Specialist to design, plan and execute organisational wellbeing initiatives.
• Support the end-to-end delivery of wellbeing programmes including trainings, workshops, campaigns events and awareness sessions.
• Contribute insights from counselling trends to enhance programme relevance and impact.
• Assist in evaluating programme effectiveness and recommending improvements.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Programme Management
• Lead and manage the organisation’s Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) network.
• Provide guidance, support, and continuous development for MHFA representatives.
• Monitor utilisation, effectiveness, and engagement of the MHFA programme.
• Ensure alignment of MHFA practices with organisational wellbeing strategy and professional standards.
Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy
• Promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma within the workplace.
• Collaborate with HR, business leaders, and other stakeholders to embed wellbeing into the employee experience.
• Act as a trusted advisor on psychological wellbeing matters across the organisation.
Governance, Ethics & Compliance
• Uphold strict confidentiality and ethical counselling practices at all times.
• Ensure all counselling practices adhere to LKM regulations and professional codes of conduct.
• Maintain proper documentation, reporting, and audit readiness for all wellbeing and counselling-related activities.
Training and others
• Develop and deliver workshops on psychosocial risks, stress management, and mental health literacy (e.g., MHFA or ISO 45003 principles).
• Serve as the first responder for workplace mental health crises, providing immediate psychological first aid and referral pathways to clinical specialists.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Counselling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Registered and licensed with Lembaga Kaunseling Malaysia (LKM) (mandatory) or Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology (MSCP) is highly preferred.
- HRD Corp TTT Certification.
- Minimum 3 years of counselling and training experience, preferably in a corporate or organisational setting.
- Experience in handling a range of mental health concerns including stress, trauma, anxiety, burnout, and workplace-related challenges.
- Experience in designing or supporting wellbeing programmes is an added advantage.
- Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.
- High level of empathy, emotional intelligence, and professionalism .
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and ethical standards.
