Job Description

We are looking for an Employee Relations professional to manage and support a diverse range of ER matters, including misconduct, grievances, workplace conflicts, harassment, attendance and performance issues. The role will lead workplace investigations, assess case risks, prepare disciplinary and performance documentation, and provide practical guidance to managers on ER matters and procedural fairness. You will work closely with HR Business Partners, Legal, Internal Audit, external counsel and employee representatives on complex and industrial relations cases. You will also contribute to improving ER policies and practices, deliver manager training, and ensure accurate case management and timely resolution in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage employee relations cases: Assess and handle misconduct allegations, grievances, workplace conflicts, harassment complaints, attendance issues, poor performance and other employment related matters. Identify the relevant facts, policies, risks and recommended next steps.
  • Lead workplace investigations: Lead investigations under the supervision of the Employee Relations Lead or Head of Employee Relations. Plan and conduct interviews, review evidence, document findings, and discuss investigation outcomes and recommendations with the ER Lead or Head of ER.
  • Support disciplinary and performance processes: Draft and review show cause notices, warning letters, disciplinary documents and performance improvement plans. Guide managers on documentation, review meetings and procedural fairness.
  • Work across departments: Liaise with HR Business Partners, Legal, Internal Audit and other departments to obtain information, coordinate action and provide practical advice on employment related matters.
  • Support industrial relations cases: Liaise with external lawyers and other legal stakeholders, together with the ER Lead or Head of ER, on industrial relations disputes and proceedings. Coordinate case documents, factual instructions and updates.
  • Engage employee representatives: Support matters involving trade unions and other employee representative bodies, including preparing correspondence, case information and meeting materials.
  • Improve ER policies and practices: Review policies, procedures and recurring case issues; recommend practical improvements. Deliver training to managers on investigations, misconduct, grievances and performance management.
  • Manage a varied caseload: Handle multiple investigations and cases alongside day-to-day ER matters in a fast-paced environment. Maintain accurate records, track progress and keep relevant stakeholders informed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.), Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related discipline.
  • 6–10 years of relevant experience in legal practice and/or Employee Relations, with strong exposure to Malaysian employment and industrial relations matters.
  • Hands-on experience in workplace investigations, disciplinary proceedings, performance management, grievances and employment disputes.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian employment and industrial relations legislation, including the Employment Act 1955 and Industrial Relations Act 1967.
  • Strong investigation, evidence assessment, analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to provide clear findings and practical recommendations.
  • Sound judgement, discretion and confidence in handling sensitive and complex employee matters.
  • Strong stakeholder management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
