Legal Counsel Commercial GTM
Job Description
This role sits within CelcomDigi's Legal Department and supports the full spectrum of commercial legal work across telecommunications and technology. The candidate will be expected to operate with sound judgment, manage risk without impeding commercial momentum and engage stakeholders across all levels. Beyond core legal work, the role is expected to actively contribute to the Department's ongoing efforts to embed AI-driven tools and process improvements that raise the quality and efficiency of legal service delivery across the Group.
Responsibilities
- Anchor commercial transactions across all business lines - structuring, research, drafting, negotiation and execution of legal agreements and documents.
- Converting novel or complex business requirements into sound legal positions and commercially workable outcomes.
- Advise on AI-related legal and regulatory matters, including reviewing and negotiating AI-related agreements as well as providing guidance on applicable AI governance obligations.
- Assess and advise on regulatory exposure under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Cyber Security Act 2024 and other applicable or emerging frameworks affecting the Group.
- Track emerging laws and regulations, assess operational impact and advise on appropriate course of action before changes take effect.
- Manage and quality-assure external counsel, ensuring instructions are tight and spend is justified.
- Keep the Head of Commercial GTM Legal informed of material risks, and step up as a thought partner on cross-group initiatives.
- Run targeted legal awareness sessions — practical, business-relevant, not generic.
Requirements
- LLB and admission as Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
- 8–12 years PQE - experience in telecommunications, technology, or a similarly regulated industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with AI contracting principles and the ability to advise on AI-related legal and regulatory matters is an advantage.
- Strong commercial drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills, with a track record of independent delivery.
- Level-headed under deadline pressure - commercially instinctive and legally correct.
- Demonstrated ability to draft and close complex commercial agreements independently, without over-escalation.
- Sound judgment under competing priorities; able to manage stakeholder demands without supervision.
