Job Description
Responsibilities
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Serve as the lead legal advisor to Technology, Regulatory, and Strategic Collaboration functions, providing commercially focused, risk-based legal counsel to support business objectives and strategic initiatives.
- Lead the structuring, drafting, review, and negotiation of complex commercial agreements, technology-related contracts, regulatory arrangements, and industry collaboration frameworks, ensuring the protection of CelcomDigi’s interests.
- Anticipate, assess, and manage legal risks arising from business operations, emerging technologies, strategic partnerships, and regulatory developments, providing proactive recommendations to senior management.
- Partner closely with business leaders and key stakeholders to provide pragmatic legal solutions that facilitate decision-making, innovation, and operational excellence.
- Advise on high-impact and business-critical matters, balancing legal, commercial, regulatory, and reputational considerations while aligning with organisational priorities.
- Represent the Legal Department in strategic discussions, negotiations, and engagements with regulators, industry partners, vendors, customers, and other external stakeholders.
- Oversee and manage external counsel engagements, including selection, budgeting, performance management, and delivery of high-quality legal support in a cost-effective manner.
- Translate legal and regulatory developments affecting the telecommunications, technology, and digital services sectors, identify implications into actionable guidance for management and business units.
- Provide expert legal support for strategic projects, corporate transactions, transformation initiatives, and cross-functional programmes across the CelcomDigi Group.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior internal stakeholders, fostering a trusted-advisor partnership while ensuring responsive and solution-oriented legal support.
- Lead legal awareness and capability-building initiatives, enhancing stakeholders’ understanding of contractual obligations, legal risk management, and governance principles.
- Contribute to the development, enhancement, and implementation of legal frameworks, processes, and best practices to improve operational efficiency and service delivery within the Legal Department.
- Act as a senior member of the Legal team, providing mentorship, guidance, and subject matter expertise while supporting departmental priorities and leadership objectives.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
• Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments within the telecommunications industry to ensure that all legal guidance remains current, accurate, and aligned with industry standards.
• Educate business units on contract compliance and related legal matters through targeted awareness initiatives, as needed.
• Provide comprehensive support to the HOS/HOD on all matters pertaining to the Legal Division, including tasks and responsibilities assigned on an ad hoc basis.
• Strong strategic/critical thinking and legal foresight
• In-depth knowledge of relevant laws, including Communications and Multimedia Act 1998
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree of Law/LLB- At least 12 -15 years post qualification experience. Experience in telecommunications sector is advantageous.
