Job Description

The Head of Unit – Credit Assessment is responsible for leading the organisation’s credit assessment function and, progressively, the Collection function, to support sustainable business growth while maintaining a strong credit risk management framework.

The role provides strategic leadership in strengthening credit governance, credit analysis and decision-making, portfolio monitoring and management reporting across all business segments, while driving continuous improvement through digitalisation, automation, and process optimisation.

Working closely with Risk Management, Finance, Business Units, and other key stakeholders, the role ensures that credit policies, processes, and controls are effectively implemented, consistently applied, and aligned with the organisation’s risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Credit Assessment function by establishing robust credit policies, frameworks, and governance to support prudent credit decision-making and sustainable business growth.
  • Ensure effective implementation of credit assessment processes, controls, and risk management practices that align with the organisation’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement through digitalisation, automation, and process optimisation to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.
  • Partner with Risk Management, Finance, Business Units, and other stakeholders to strengthen credit governance and support business objectives.
  • Lead credit analysis, portfolio monitoring and management reporting across all business segments, including Consumer, Enterprise, Emerging and Wholesale etc, to identify emerging risks and trends and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies. 
  • Provide leadership and develop a high-performing team by fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Lead strategic initiatives and change programmes to strengthen credit capabilities, governance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Progressively oversee the Collection function, establishing an integrated end-to-end credit management framework to optimise portfolio quality and recovery performance.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management.

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline from a recognised university.
  • Minimum 8–12 years of relevant credit experience within financial institutions, credit agencies, or established credit risk functions, including at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Telecommunications industry experience is an added advantage.
  • Proven leadership experience in building, coaching, developing, and managing high-performing teams.
  • Proven track record in driving process improvement, digitalisation, and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen governance and controls, and improve customer experience.
  • Strong understanding of commercial credit assessment methodologies, financial statement analysis, and credit risk management principles.
  • Good knowledge of regulatory requirements, governance, and internal control frameworks related to credit operations.
  • Experience with credit assessment systems, workflow automation, and data analytics tools is an advantage.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
